Stepping into Growth
Megan McGee & HMK Student with Mindfulness Jars
Greetings Mindfulness In Education Supporter,
We are excited to have another school year underway. It is with enthusiasm that we continue offering Mindfulness In Education (MIE) programming in the Grand County School District!
After teaching mindfulness classes at Helen M. Knight Elementary School (HMK) for many years, Megan McGee is now offering her years of experience in a supportive role. With Megan’s guidance, Angela Houghton offered a seven-week mindfulness session in two, 1st grade classrooms last spring. The children loved the bell that was used to begin the sessions and also were thrilled to experience the mindful eating day! They also appreciated learning about creating personal safe places in their homes.
Dan McNeil has been offering mindfulness classes at HMK since the fall of 2018. He brings an abundance of skill and experience in sharing mindfulness practices to the older grades.
Dan and Angela intend to begin MIE programming for the 2024-25 school year in early October at HMK. A few themes that will be included in the curriculum are: kindness, heartfulness practices, and exploring/witnessing emotions.
We are proud to say that MIE has offered a Yoga and Mindfulness class at the Grand County High School since 2016. This fall semester has 24 students! The current teacher, Sam Metzner, offers a variety of programming to meet the diverse needs of our high school students. This includes trauma informed resources, guided meditations and reflective journaling, along with the physical yoga movements.
We are also excited to announce that we have a new board member, Shiree Duncan. Shiree is a dedicated meditation practitioner that is gifted with growing fruit and vegetables. Shiree enjoys organizing data and we look forward to having her insight and organizational skills on our team.
We continue to prioritize the current MIE program and are delighted to work on growing future programming. We appreciate having interested and supportive MIE teachers and board members and are taking incremental steps in growing our team.
At the moment, we are raising money to support our current programming and appreciate the diverse ways that we are supported. The school administration and teachers are warm and welcoming, this includes the gracious use of classrooms at HMK. The MIE teachers are passionate about sharing these resources to the children in our community.
If you are inspired by and/or interested in what we are offering, we would greatly appreciate your financial support! Click below to Donate.
With Love,
